On August 10, 2001 the Tejano Statue-Capitol, Inc. Board and advisory members selected the celebrated painter, sculptor and educator, Armando Hinojosa of Laredo, Texas to commemorate the contributions of the Tejano people to Texas in a memorial on the State Capitol Grounds.Mr. Hinojosa’s concept was selected from among proposals submitted by four accomplished Texas artists. Each artist created maquettes and 2 dimensional renderings to illustrate their concepts. Below Armando holds the maquette of his original proposal.
Over the last eight years Hinojosa has worked with the Tejano Statue Committee and State Preservation Board to modify the proposal to that seen in the new rendering on the home page of this website. While the theme and basic elements have remained the same, the layout has changed.
